The original item was published from March 2, 2018 9:31 AM to May 19, 2022 11:13 AM

Team,

The Norfolk area is currently under a High Wind Warning until tomorrow, March 3, at 6am.  We will also be under a Coastal Flood Warning tomorrow the 3rd at 7am until March 4 at 5pm.

Please check out this morning’s Decision Brief from the NWS in Wakefield.  Per Jeff Orrock, Meteorologist-in-Charge:

“Winds increased quickly early this morning. The peak winds are still yet to come later this morning and through the entire day. Wind forecasts have been increased some across the entire region. The duration of the high winds is very concerning and will likely result in numerous trees down and power outages.

Coastal flooding and severe beach and dune erosion is also expected across the lower Bay and entire coast Saturday.

This is a dangerous storm and we can expect a prolonged period of high winds through this afternoon into tonight.”

The Hourly Graph shows wind gusts nearing 60mph later this morning.

The Tides chart shows little change from yesterday’s update.  Highest high tides hovering around 5.5’ Saturday night and Sunday morning; however, flooding also expected Saturday morning and Sunday night.  Forturnately there is no rainfall to exasperate the problem.  Nonetheless, as Jeff said, along with flooding we can expect severe beach and dune erosion.

We will be participating on a conference call with the NWS and Virginia Department of Emergency Management at 11am and we expect another NWS Decision Brief around 3pm.

Please remind folks to register for Norfolk Alert and to also secure any loose items around their homes.

Thank you!

Jim
