---NORFOLK IS UNDER A WINTER STORM WATCH FROM 1/3/2018 1:00 PM to 1/4/2018 1:00 PM EST---

Please see the following report from our friends at the National Weather Service in Wakefield:
*A Winter Storm Watch have been posted for much of eastern VA/NE NC and the Lower Maryland eastern shore for Wednesday and Thursday *
A coastal low is expected to bring accumulating snow and gusty winds to portions of eastern VA, northeast NC, and the lower MD Eastern Shore Wednesday afternoon into Thursday. Attached is a winter storm briefing, highlighting potential impacts and snow amounts.
Overall, snowfall amounts of 3-5" of snow are expected across the lower Eastern Shore south into Hampton Roads and interior northeast NC from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning. Lesser amounts of around 1" are expected along the I-95 corridor, with little to no accumulating snow across the Piedmont. Amounts may be a little lower from VA Beach southward into coastal northeast NC where a brief period of sleet/rain at the outset is expected for a time Wednesday afternoon/evening.
Travel is expected to become hazardous late Wednesday night into Thursday morning with temperatures mainly in the 20s. Gusty winds on Thursday may cause blowing snow and reduced visibility in areas that receive the most snow.

Of course, Norfolk Public Works' Operations Division is on it and making their preparations. One items of note: complicating snow removal efforts will be the colds temperatures for the next 5 days: highs in the 20s and lows in the 10s (Saturday low: 9). Next week will see a warming trend: highs in the 40s and 50s.
The EOC will be participating on a conference call with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management at 2:30pm today.
