Paul R. Riddick was first elected to Council in July 1992 representing Ward 4 (PDF).
Mr. Riddick is the owner and operator of Riddick Funeral Service in Norfolk. He is the co-chair of the Mayor’s Advisory Committee/St. Paul’s Area. He represents the city as a member of the Southeastern Tidewater Opportunity Project (STOP) and serves as an alternate to the Hampton Roads Regional Jail Authority. He previously served on the Board of the Transportation District Commission of Hampton Roads, the Southside Task Force and the Church Street/Huntersville Development Committee.
Mr. Riddick is a member and former Vestryman of Grace Episcopal Church. He is the former president of the Norfolk Branch of the NAACP and was the lead plaintiff in Riddick v. School Board of the City of Norfolk (filed to halt the return to neighborhood elementary schools). Additionally, he is a member of Eastern Light 04 Masonic Lodge, Prince Hall Mason; Alpha and Omega Consistory Number 9; Norfolk Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association, the Virginia Morticians Association and the Tux Club and Hiawatha Social and Beneficial Association.
He attended Norfolk State University and has an A.A.S. degree in funeral service from John Tyler Community College, Chester, Virginia. He was voted Omega Psi Phi Citizen of the Year by the Lambda Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity and was honored by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority as a "Citizen of Tomorrow."
Mr. Riddick has five children and is the proud grandfather of eight.
