COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at Military Circle Mall is Now Closed

The Virginia Department of Health’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Military Circle Mall will dispense its final doses on Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. As of Dec. 3, a total of 155,076 vaccinations have been administered at the clinic.

VDH opened the clinic on Jan. 25, 2021, providing 13,400 vaccines until the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) took over in Mar. 2021. The FEMA clinic provided 81,862 vaccines between Mar. 29 and May 22, 2021.

The Cities of Norfolk, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach worked with VDH through the summer of 2021 to provide 5,824 vaccines at Military Circle Mall until Ashbritt took over operations in late fall. Ashbritt’s clinic operated from Oct. 9, 2021, until Mar. 31, 2022, during which time 48,497 vaccines were administered.

VDH resumed operations on Apr. 5 of this year and has since provided an additional 5,493 vaccines, as of Dec. 3.

“The success of the Military Circle Mall mass vaccination center would not have been possible without the City of Norfolk’s full and enduring support,” states Dr. Sulola Adekoya, MD, MPH, acting health director, Norfolk & Portsmouth Departments of Health. “The passionate members of Team Norfolk dedicated an extraordinary amount of time and resources to ensure all Norfolk residents had access to free COVID-19 vaccination and testing services. As a result, the City of Norfolk has the highest percentage of its population vaccinated among Southampton Roads jurisdictions.”

In addition to vaccinations, COVID-19 testing was offered from September 2021 through February 2022.  Free COVID-19 Home Test Kits have been handed out to the public at the clinic since April 2022.

Additionally, the clinic provided 454 Mpox vaccinations between Sept. 12 and Oct. 26 of this year.
