"Keep Norfolk Beautiful works to lead our community to reduce litter, waste less and beautify Norfolk through education and volunteerism to maintain clean, safe and resilient neighborhoods"

KNB has awesome volunteer opportunities for individuals, civic and faith-based organizations, small and large businesses and military groups alike! Volunteers are the key to reducing litter in the City of Norfolk, conserving our natural resources, and enhancing community pride.

Our Programs

Adopt-A-Spot is KNB’s longest running program and these volunteers collect thousands of pounds of trash every year. Groups, and individuals, clean four times a year at one location. This program is a coordinated effort between Keep Norfolk Beautiful and our volunteers to reduce litter throughout the city. You can find out more information and how to get involved on our Adopt-A-Spot page.

Community Cleanups can be scheduled anytime throughout the year and Keep Norfolk Beautiful will provide supplies and training. Follow the Community Cleanups link to register your cleanup!

Household Hazardous Waste Collection  (April 2020 and November 2020): Join the City of Norfolk for the Spring and fall household hazardous waste collection event! These events are held twice a year and invite Norfolk residents to drive through, and drop off, hazardous chemicals, paint, oil, grease, documents for shredding and e-waste to be disposed of properly. Every year, these events prevent thousands of pounds of dangerous chemicals, metals, and minerals from getting into our rivers and ocean.

Clean the Bay Day (June 6th, 2020) will see thousands of Virginians descend on the rivers, streams, and beaches of the Chesapeake Bay watershed to remove harmful litter and debris. This is a great opportunity for families, military installations, businesses, clubs, civic or church groups to give back to local waterways.

International Coastal Cleanup (September - October) is not your average cleanup. Join thousands of volunteers around the world as we track and collect litter, preventing it from polluting our environment and collecting valuable data along the way!

National Planting Day (September 2020) is a day of beautification. Keep Norfolk Beautiful and our partners bring together volunteers to beautify our community in parks, gardens, and other public spaces.

Jamn’ Jamz, hosted by the Friends of Norfolk’s Environment is held every January at Lafayette Park. Norfolk residents can get a free tree, shrub or vine. Also enjoy vendors for beekeeping, Tree Trivia, Bay Star Homes, and delicious jams. Take part in jam cooking demonstrations, tastings, and pick up recipes and tips.
