Light Rail Construction
Atlantic Street
• Through October 18, watch for street closure to through traffic on
Atlantic Street between East City Hall Avenue and East Plume Street due to
utility relocations for light rail.
Bristol Avenue
• Through December 21, watch for closure of the intersection of Bristol
Avenue at Curlew Drive.
Colley Avenue
● Beginning October 13, there will be alternating lane closures on Colley
Avenue near West Brambleton Avenue due to utility relocations for light rail.

• Through November 15, watch for closure of the northbound right turn lane on
Colley Avenue at the southeast corner of West Brambleton Avenue.
East Brambleton Avenue
• Through January 2009, watch for closure of the eastbound outside vehicle
travel lane on East Brambleton Avenue from Park Avenue to I-264 off ramp.
East Plume Street
• Through October 13, watch for closure of one eastbound vehicle travel lane on
East Plume Street between Bank Street and Commercial Place to utility
relocations for light rail.
Holt Street
● Beginning October 20, Holt Street will be closed for construction of the light
rail system. This closure will be in effect through March 2009.
Riverview Avenue
• Through October 15, watch for lane closures on Riverview Avenue between West
Brambleton Avenue and Southampton Avenue.
Saint Pauls Boulevard
• Through October 15, watch for alternating lane closures on Saint Pauls
Boulevard between East Plume Street and East Main Street daily for light rail
utility relocations. At least two lanes will be open in each direction at all
times.
West Brambleton Avenue
● Through October 31, watch for inside lane closure on West Brambleton
Avenue from Colley Avenue to the end of the Brambleton Avenue Bridge.
• Through December 4, watch for closure of the eastbound feeder road and the
outside lane on West Brambleton Avenue starting at Colley Avenue to the
Brambleton Avenue bridge.
• Through December 31, watch for closure of the eastbound outside travel lane on
West Brambleton Avenue starting at the end of the Brambleton Bridge to Botetourt
Street .
Woodis Avenue
• Starting October 3, Woodis Avenue from East Brambleton Avenue to Second
Street will be closed for light rail construction.
Downtown Closures
Boush Street
• Through February 2009, watch for alternating lane closures between Grace
Street and Olney Road due to utility work. One way traffic will be maintained at
all times.
Brooke Avenue
• Through October 30, watch for street closure to through traffic on
Brooke Avenue between McColloughs Lane and Granby Street due to utility work.
Duke Street
• Through November 15, Duke Street will be closed to through traffic from East
Brambleton Avenue to West Bute Street due to utility work.
East Brambleton Avenue
• Through November 6, watch for closure of the northbound outside lanes on East
Brambleton Avenue through the intersection of Saint Pauls Boulevard.
East City Hall Avenue
• Through December 12, watch for closure of the eastbound outside lane on East
City Hall Avenue between Court Street and Saint Paul’s Boulevard.
Freemason Street
• Starting October 6, Freemason Street will be closed to through traffic from
Bank Street to Monticello Avenue for the Wachovia Center construction.
Madison Mews
• Through October 16, watch for street closure to through traffic on Madison
Mews south of Freemason Street due to roadway work.
Monticello Avenue
Through October 18, there will be alternating lane closures on Monticello Avenue
at Virginia Beach Blvd. daily due to utility work
Saint Pauls Boulevard
• Starting October 21, two vehicle travel lanes southbound on Saint Pauls
Boulevard from Brambleton Avenue to just before the Scope Parking garage will be
closed daily due to utility work.
West Bute Street
• Through July 2009, watch for closure of West Bute Street next to the Granby
Tower construction site between Granby Street and the property line.
York Street
• Through October 17, watch for closure of one vehicle travel lane on
York Street from Dunmore Street to Botetourt Street due to utility work.
Waterside Drive
• Through June, 2009, watch for closure of the drop off lane just west of
Waterside Marketplace and east of the Granby connector.
West Brambleton Avenue
• Through January 2009, the eastbound outside lane on West Brambleton
Avenue will be closed between Colley Avenue and Boush Street due to light rail
construction activity.
West York Street
• Through October 31, watch for street closure to through traffic on West
York Street from Botetourt Street to Duke Street due to utility work.
New Road Closures
Baltimore Street
• Through November 6, watch for street closure to through traffic on
Baltimore Street due to utility work.
Blow Street
• Through October 17, watch for closure of the northbound parking lane between
Redgate Avenue and Westover Avenue due to utility work.
East City Hall Avenue
• Through October 18, watch for closure of the westbound lane on East
City Hall Avenue between Bank Street and Granby Street due to light rail
construction.
East Indian River Road
• Through October 27, watch for closure of the eastbound lane on East
Indian River Road between Lansing Street and Fauquier Street due to utility
work.
• Through October 26, watch for closure of the westbound lane on East Indian
River Road between Wilson Road and Seldon Avenue due to utility work.
East Liberty Street
• Through December 15, watch for alternating lane closures on East
Liberty Street between Culpepper Street and Rockingham Street.
East Little Creek Road
• Through November 30, watch for alternating eastbound and westbound lane
closures on East Little Creek Road between Chesapeake Boulevard and Tidewater
Drive.
East Virginia Beach Boulevard
• Through October 29, watch for eastbound and westbound lane closures on East
Virginia Beach Boulevard between Tidewater Drive and Hanson Avenue.
Spotswood Avenue
• Through November 3, watch for closure of the westbound lane on Spotswood
Avenue between Claremont Avenue and Makota Street due to utility work.
Vincent Avenue
• Through October 14, watch for street closure on Vincent Avenue at the
railroad tracks at the intersection of Cape Henry Avenue due to roadway repairs.
Norfolk in General
Barre Street
• Through December 8, watch for closure of Barre Street to through traffic from
Galt Street to C Avenue. A lane of traffic will remain open at all times for
city emergency and resident access. The street will reopen in the evening.
Bluestone Avenue
• Through February 2009, watch for street closure on Bluestone Avenue between
Melrose Parkway and West 49th Street.
C Avenue
• Through October 13, watch for street closure to through traffic on C Avenue
between Church Street and Chase Street due to utility work.
Caroline Street
• Through October 15, watch for street closure to through traffic on Caroline
Street between Talbot Hall Road and Oak Grove Road due to utility work.
Dallas Street
• Through October 15, watch for closure of Dallas Street between Fort Worth
Avenue and East Little Creek Road due to utility work.
Diven Street
• Through March 2009, watch for alternating lane closures on Diven Street due to
installation of curb ramps.
East Brambleton Avenue
• Through November 24, watch for closure of two eastbound outside lanes on East
Brambleton Avenue through the intersection of Park Avenue for utility work.
East Indian River Road
• Through October 26, watch for closure of the westbound lane on East
Indian River Road between Wilson Road and Seldon Avenue due to utility work.
East Little Creek Road
• Through October 29, watch for alternating eastbound and westbound lane
closures on East Little Creek Road between Chesapeake Boulevard and Tidewater
Drive.
East Virginia Beach Boulevard
• Through November 17, watch for closure of the westbound and eastbound inside
median lanes on East Virginia Beach Boulevard between Hanson Avenue and
Tidewater Drive due to roadway repairs to the underpass.
• Through November 15, watch for closure of one eastbound inside travel lane and
one inside westbound lane on East Virginia Beach Boulevard from Llewellyn Avenue
to Monticello Avenue.
• Through February, 2009 watch for alternating lane closures on East Virginia
Beach Boulevard on East Virginia Beach Boulevard at Ballentine Boulevard.
Granby Street
• Through October 22, watch for alternating lane closures on Granby Street
between East Bayview Boulevard and Landale Road.
Hurley Street
• Through October 17, watch for street closure to through traffic on Hurley
Street between Peterson Street and Davis Street due to utility work.
Llewellyn Avenue
• Through October 12, watch for closure of the northbound right lane on
Llewellyn Avenue north of 20th Street.
Mason Creek Road
• Through April 2009, watch for lane closures on Mason Creek Road at the
I-64 Bridge.
Newport Avenue
• Through October 15, watch for street closure on Newport Avenue between Talbot
Hall Road and Brackenridge Avenue due to utility work.
Omohundro Avenue
• Through November 24, watch for street closure on Omohundro Avenue between 20th
Street and 21st Street.
Saint Julian Avenue
• Through November 5, watch for street closure to through traffic on Saint
Julian Avenue heading east between Roberts Road to the back of Norfolk Streets
and Bridges.
Saint Mihiel Avenue
• Through February 2009, watch for street closure to through traffic on Saint
Mihiel Avenue between Shoop Avenue and Pope Avenue due to utility work.
Sewells Point Road
• Through December 30, watch for alternating southbound and northbound lane
closures on Sewells Point Road at the intersection of Widgeon Road due to
utility work.
Shoop Avenue
• Through February 2009, watch for closure of Shoop Avenue between Somme Avenue
and Vimy Ridge Avenue due to utility work.
Sinclair Street
• Through October 15, watch for street closure to through traffic on Sinclair
Street between Catherine Street and Granby Street due to utility work.
Somme Avenue
• Through February 2009, watch for street closure to through traffic on Somme
Avenue between Fearer Avenue and Shoop Avenue due to utility work.
Thole Street
• Through October 16, watch for closure of the center portion of the eastbound
and westbound lanes on Thole Street.
Tidewater Drive
• Through October 2008, both northbound vehicle traffic lanes on Tidewater Drive
from Webster Avenue to Pope Avenue will be closed. Northbound traffic will be
diverted into one southbound lane. One lane of traffic will remain open in each
direction at all times.
• Through October 13, watch for closure of the southbound outside lane on
Tidewater Drive south of Widgeon Road.
• Through December 31, watch for alternating northbound and southbound lane
closures on Tidewater Drive between Webster Avenue and Shoop Avenue due to
roadway work.
Vimy Ridge Avenue
• Through February 2009, watch for street closure to through traffic on Vimy
Ridge Avenue between Fearer Avenue and Shoop Avenue due to utility work.
Virginia Beach Boulevard
• Starting October 6, there will be alternating lane closures at the
intersection of Virginia Beach Boulevard and Monticello Avenue due to utility
work.
Warren Street
• Through October 15, watch for closure of the southbound lane on Newport
Avenue between Warren Street and Harvard Street due to utility work.
West 20th Street
• Through October 12, watch for street closure on West 20th Street
between Llewellyn Avenue and Omohundro Avenue due to utility work.
West 42nd Street
• Through August 2009, watch for closure of the eastbound lane of 42nd Street
between Bowdens Ferry Road and Hampton Boulevard.
West Ocean View Avenue
• Through October 2008, watch for closure of the westbound right turn
lane on West Ocean View Avenue during the summer months.
