6/3/08 – COMMONWEALTH VS. ANTHONY DOMINIQUE WYATT
Today, Anthony Dominique Wyatt, 20-years-old, pleaded guilty in Norfolk Circuit Court to 1 count of 2nd Degree Murder and 1 count of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. His sentencing hearing is now scheduled for November 14, 2008. Wyatt was charged after the August 4, 2006, fatal shooting of a man, Antwain Jones, in the 1500 block of Spruce Street.
6/9/08 – COMMONWEALTH VS. LATRELL SHAMONT ASKEW
Today, Latrell Shamont Askew, 19-years-old, appeared in Norfolk Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court for certification hearing. The judge certified 2 felony charges against Askew, 1 count of First Degree Murder and 1 count of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, to the Grand Jury and Circuit Court. A certification hearing was necessary in this case because Askew, an adult at the time of his arrest, was a juvenile at the time of the crime.Askew was charged earlier this year after investigators learned new information connected him to the August 2, 2005, fatal shooting of a man, Michael Randolph Shine, on Dana Street near Grandy Avenue.
6/10/08 – COMMONWEALTH VS. RICHARD RICARDO ROGERS
Today, Richard Ricardo Rogers, 35-years-old, was found not guilty by a jury in Norfolk Circuit Court of 1 count of 2nd Degree Murder and 1 count of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony following a 2 day trial. Rogers was charged after the October 28, 2006, fatal shooting of a man, Delvin Dumas, 35-years-old.
6/16/08 – COMMONWEALTH VS. CONWAY HENRY ROHAN
Today, Conway Henry Rohan, 41-years-old, was convicted by a judge in Norfolk Circuit Court of 1 count of Assault & Battery. The judge also sentenced Rohan to 12 months in jail for the conviction. Rohan was charged after the October 15, 2006, fatal stabbing of Devon Brathwaite, 23-years-old, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3160 in the 100 block of A View Avenue. A party was being held there. Three other men were charged in connection with this crime. Two have been convicted and sentenced. Charges are pending against the remaining man.
6/17/08 – COMMONWEALTH VS. KRISTEN LAVON STEEN
Today, Kristen Lavon Steen, 18-years-old, pleaded guilty in Norfolk Circuit Court to 1 count of 2nd Degree Murder and 1 count of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 17, 2008. Steen was charged after the December 31, 2007, fatal shooting of a man, Jamal Matthews, 21-years-old, in the 7500 block of Tidewater Drive, Southern Shopping Center.
6/19/08 – COMMONWEALTH VS. TIFFANY RACHEL LEE
Today, a jury in Norfolk Circuit Court found Tiffany Rachel Lee, 26-years-old, not guilty of 1 count of 1st Degree Murder, 1 count of Robbery, and 2 counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony following a 3 day trial. Lee was charged after the July 21, 2005, fatal shooting of a man, Terrell Stewart, in the 900 block of Quail Street. A man, Robert Ulyses Oliver, 28-years-old, is also facing charges in connection with this crime.
6/20/08 – COMMONWEALTH VS. MYRON EUGENE FOX, JR.
Today, a judge in Norfolk Circuit Court imposed a jury’s recommended sentence of 7 years in prison on Myron Eugene Fox, Jr., 32-years-old, for the conviction of 1 count of 2nd Degree Murder. The jury convicted Fox of the charge following a 3 day trial in March 2008. Fox was charged after the August 30, 2007, beating of a man, Edward Stacknik, Jr., in the 3000 block of Tillman Road. Stacknik died 3 weeks later from his injuries in a hospital. Fox hit Stacknik 3 times with a metal baseball bat during a confrontation between their families over a relationship involving Fox’s brother, Anthony Fox, and Stacknik’s sister, Stacy Stacknik.
6/23/08 – COMMONWEALTH VS. ROY SAWYER
Today, Roy Sawyer, 51-years-old, pleaded guilty in Norfolk Circuit Court to 1 count of Aggravated Sexual Battery. He was then sentenced by the judge to 20 years in prison with 17 years and 7 months suspended, resulting in 2 years and 5 months to serve. He’ll be on probation for 10 years following his release and be registered as a sex offender with the Virginia State Police. Sawyer was charged after an investigation into complaints made by a minor female who he helped to babysit.
6/23/08 – COMMONWEALTH VS. WILLIAM HENRY SMITH
Today, William Henry Smith, 37-years-old, appeared in Norfolk General District Court for preliminary hearing. The judge certified the charges against Smith, 1 count of 2nd Degree Murder, 1 count of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and 1 count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, to the Grand Jury and Norfolk Circuit Court. Smith was charged after the May 17, 2008, fatal shooting of a man, Dan Hubbard, in the 1500 block of E. Virginia Beach Boulevard.
6/27/08 – COMMONWEALTH VS. NAKIA LAMONT QUINN
Today, Nakia Lamont Quinn, 33-years-old, appeared in Norfolk General District Court for preliminary hearing. The judge certified the charges against Quinn, 1 count of 2nd Degree Murder and 1 count of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, to the Grand Jury and Norfolk Circuit Court. Quinn was charged after the January 30, 2008, fatal shooting of a man, Deon Lamont Benson, in the 7000 block of Sewells Point Road. Another man, Gregory Donnell Juniper, 35-years-old, is also facing charges in connection with this crime.
